Split at supported top-level bookmark destinations

Split at supported top-level bookmark destinations. Configure the available options, inspect the result and download it from your browser.

How it works

  1. Open a PDF containing top-level bookmarks.
  2. Export a ZIP split at supported bookmark destinations.
  3. Extract and inspect the first and last page of every chapter.

Requires usable outline entries. Inspect resulting chapter boundaries.

When to use this tool

Separate a bookmarked manual into chapter files.

What to check before sharing

Bookmarks without local page destinations cannot define boundaries. Nested bookmarks are not chapter boundaries. Page copying can remove editable forms; flatten them explicitly first.

Supported files

Requires usable outline entries. Inspect resulting chapter boundaries.

Inputs: PDF. Performance depends on your device. Download important work before closing the browser; local storage is not a backup.

Troubleshooting

If the file will not open, check it in another PDF reader. If it is password-protected, use Remove a PDF password with a password you know. For scans that need selectable text, run Make a PDF searchable first.

Common questions

Can I split a PDF without bookmarks?

Use Split with explicit page ranges or add bookmarks first.

Are nested entries used?

No. Only supported top-level local destinations define chapters.

Which files can I use?

Supported inputs: PDF. Requires usable outline entries. Inspect resulting chapter boundaries.

Is this free?

Core tools require no account or subscription and add no watermark.

Do my documents leave my device?

Document processing runs in your browser. PDF Studio does not upload document files. Explicitly saved drafts and My files remain in this browser until deleted. Read aloud may use network-backed browser voices.
