How to edit PDF document properties
Update title, author and subject. Learn the available controls, a practical example and what to check.
Open Edit metadata →Follow these steps
- Choose the supported source file or files from your device.
- Enter the title, author or subject you want in the document properties.
- Export and inspect properties in another reader.
What this tool actually does
Metadata is descriptive information separate from visible page text. Changing Author does not remove an author name printed on a cover or inside an attachment.
Choose the controls for your document
Review Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer. Leave a value empty deliberately when it should be cleared; do not add keyword lists unrelated to the document.
Before your first export
For a distributed report, set a meaningful title and an appropriate author value. Check visible headers separately: document properties and text printed on a page are independent sources of identifying information.
The visible title does not change
That title is page content. Use a supported text edit or create a revised source; metadata editing addresses reader properties.
A checked example you can try
The requested title is stored.

Check the result
Metadata changes do not remove visible personal information. Use Remove metadata when you need those standard fields cleared.
Keep the original. When this task produces a file, reopen the download in the application where you will use it and inspect the affected pages. An illustration explains the operation; it is not a recorded processing test.

- That title is page content. Use a supported text edit or create a revised source; metadata editing addresses reader properties.
- Check page text, annotations, embedded files and other structures separately. A correct properties panel is not complete sanitization.
